Illustration of Mongolian Painting

The work of Mongolian artist Zagaa is characterized by a flat application of transparent paint such as acrylic and ink on canvas. Dipping her brush in thinned paint, Zagaa explores themes and symbols from Mongolia’s nomadic culture, transposing them into the abstract and transforming them into her own compositions.

Zagaa combines European digital illustrations with Mongolian subjects to discover just where the boundaries between these two cultures lie.

The artist’s central themes are moving horses, especially black horses from different perspectives, and women in traditional costume riding through imaginary or unusual places.
