Axel Pfannenschmidt’s works are based on ceramic sculptures that he forms into objects by adding wood, steel, feathers or glass. The figures are carved and acquire their characteristic black from raku, a firing process that originated in Japan. The artist then combines his works with an interesting mix of materials consisting of found wood, metal or glass. The resulting objects, hung on a wall of allowed to stand, express a calm tranquillity, melancholy, yearning and hope.
