Mareike Felsch

Collage & Painting

Pictures by Mareike Felsch depict fairy-tale fantasy landscapes that remind us of children’s books or dreams. There is an ironic element to all her works, derived from a merger of milieus with often quirky inhabitants or from a shift in dimensions. Apparent opposites pledge peaceful coexistence. Her fascination with collage technique is fed by the opportunity to combine disparate things in relaxed, humorous ways. That is how she began the current series of gymnasts and women jumping. She found her models, some of them from Berlin, in photographs of the 1920s, 1930s and 1950s.
