Bianca Burow

Painting, sculpture, graphic arts

Figurative sketches of people form the core of Bianca Burow’s art. Her delicate, momentary figurines are caught up in their lives, their movements, their encounters. Her pen-and-ink drawings and paintings are stylised snapshots, situations from everyday life. Minimalist line brings these scenes to life and triggers the imagination. Burow’s wooden sculptures are three-dimensional expressions of these moments, and the old, hand-crafted nails are themselves like figures. As a special substrate for her paintings, Burow is using a new material, planed and sanded oak from her own woodland. The wood is alive and gives the figures a layered background, sometimes generating its own sense of perspective.
