Janin Walter

Photography / Painting

The Berlin-based artist Janin Walter works with urban and architectural dynamics and phenomena. In her current series WABI SABI, she explores the values that define architecture and urban space in different countries. WABI SABI is an aesthetic concept referring to perceptions of beauty and is used in assessing art in Japan. Its supreme value is not beauty itself, but imperfection. In collages composed from photographs and acrylic paint, she sets the focus on different types of architecture, visualising inherent characteristics and expanding the space around the structures.

She thereby challenges current universal ideals of beauty. For the ART…ESSENZ Edition, Janin Walter has provided a WABI SABI image of Potsdamer Platz.
