Fantasy Landscapes

Mareike Felsch makes images of fairy-tale imaginary landscapes reminiscent of children’s books or dreams. By combining living spaces with often whimsical inhabitants or by changing dimensions, her works always retain an element of irony. Apparent contradictions coalesce into peaceful coexistence. The artist is attracted to the collage technique as it allows her to bring together the most diverse things in a light-hearted and amusing way. She uses frottage or monotyping and includes historical drawings, pressed planes and all kinds of paper such as napkins, wallpaper, Japanese paper or gift wrap. Acrylics, inks and color pigments are then used to bind these individual fragments into a unified composition.
