Klaus von Gratkowski

Painting and Sculpture

Ambient Sound
How can you capture silence, tranquillity, contemplation in an image?
Iron, soil and pigments are the materials that Klaus von Gratkowski, a painter and sculptor from Berlin, has been using for years consistently to achieve the same aim: to try to capture silence in his work. The artist incorporates delicate iron sculptures into his painting and is mainly interested in symbolism. The message of his “figure paintings” is completed by its gentle color scheme. He handles the different materials very carefully. He identifies with minimalism and uses that branch of art to create a kind of “ambient sound” in his pictures.
